Every year, preparing for the new season, theaters carefully lowered a heavy beautiful chandelier into the auditorium. In Odessa opera, for example, the chandelier weighs 2.2 tons and 12 m high, in the Sevastopol Drama Theater - 1.2 tons, and the heaviest chandelier is located in the Opera Rome Theater - 5.2 tons, made from Bohemian glass and 262 light bulbs shines.
Thousands of crystal pendants wash up so that their shines are enough for a year ahead, change the light bulbs, clean the brass parts from dust. This process would be long and complicated. But, these large chandeliers are equipped with a special device, allowing to easily lower them down and raise to the ceiling.
The light lift for the chandelier is placed in the technical room above the hall. This is a well-established mechanism, so that a big chandelier can easily be lowered and raise one person. It lowers the chandelier on the cable slowly, not allowing shaking and swinging: the whole process takes 30-40 minutes. And as a result, the chandelier turns out to be almost above the floor.

For example, the chandelier of the Kiev opera was made in Austria and decorate the hall of the opera for 120 years. It weighs 650 kg. It was first raised under the dome in 1901, to the discovery of the first season again rebuilt after the fire of the building. The original chandelier of the Odessa opera, unfortunately, has not been preserved. During the Great Patriotic War, her tried to take out Romanian troops and it was very damaged.Now in the hall hangs a replica of it made in 1958 from the same Bohemian crystal. Weigh chandelier 2 tons of 200 kilograms. Under the floor is hidden telescopic tower, like a fire tower. It is from this staircase that the employees clean the chandelier when the light lift lowers it at a comfortable height.
Once a year, from the ceiling of the La Scala Opera House in Milan, workers lower and clean the central chandelier - an accurate copy of the one that was destroyed during the bombing of the Second World War. There is a whole brigade of electricians. To clean the 383 light bulbs and wash the large chandelier, it is lowered from the ceiling in the center of the room - but not in the seat, and on the specially designed wooden platform.
For security reasons, a copy of the 19th century chandelier, which was destroyed during the war, did not make a completely from Bohemian crystal - some parts are made of plastic to make the structure lighter.
